INSPIRING IDEAS

RBG Patch:

Empowering girls to be successful is what every woman should do! Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought fiercely for women’s rights, for herself and others. This patch honors her by depicting one of her most famous quotes. “Women belong in all the places where decisions are being made” visit our site for some inspiring ideas of ways to help your girls earn this patch. Get ready to explore and learn more about Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her legacy so you too can wear your RBG patch with pride!

·       Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court she fought fiercely for women’s rights, for herself and others. Discuss with your girls the importance of justice and fairness. Create a STEM scale with a plastic hanger, attach a string to both sides of the hanger, and hang 1 cup from the string on each side. Make sure your cups are the same as well as the lengths of your strings. Hang the hanger from somewhere and place some candy M&M’s on one side watch how the scale tips to one side. Discuss with your girls how this could be unfair if someone got the filled cup and someone else the empty cup. How can you make them weigh the same? Discuss what would be a fair process and how to achieve that with this fun STEM activity.

·       Ruth Bader Ginsberg often said, “I Dissent” what does the word “dissent” mean? What does it stand for? Have a group discussion with your girls. Create a game by reading statements of truths and lies and have girls decide if they stand for these statements by using the “I Dissent” statement when they don’t agree with what is being said. Explain that is it ok to not always agree with what others say. It is important to have your own opinions.

·       Another famous quote from Ruth Bader Ginsburg was “Fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you” have girls find positive quotes that represent something they stand for and create posters with their quote. Have them find a place in their community and ask them if they will allow them to display their poster.

·       Create an affirmations board with your girls. Have girls find quotes and words that stand for things they believe in, cut them and glue them onto a glass/plastic frame and have them display in their home.

·       This famous jewelry piece was worn by RBG to help girls design and create their own “I dissent” craft collar using felt ribbon and rhinestones. Look up pictures of her collars and brainstorm ideas on how to design your very own version.
